Position Overview
The Cashier role at VKB Retail Harrismith is an entry-level position within the VKB Commercial Services division, specifically in the Retail business unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and controlling all cash and card transactions handled at the store. This includes ensuring accuracy, compliance with company procedures, and excellent client service at all times.
As the first and last point of contact for many customers, the Cashier plays an important role in shaping the overall customer experience. Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Cashier will be responsible for a variety of operational and administrative tasks that support the smooth functioning of the retail outlet. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
You will process paypoint sales, ensuring that all items are scanned or entered correctly and that totals are accurate. Handling both cash and card payments forms a core part of the role, requiring strict attention to detail and adherence to VKB Group procedures.
Providing effective client service is central to this position. You will assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, respond to basic queries, and handle minor issues or complaints with confidence and courtesy. Where necessary, you will escalate matters appropriately while maintaining a calm and respectful approach.
You will manage receipts from customers and ensure that all allocations are processed correctly. This includes verifying transaction details, issuing accurate receipts, and ensuring that records match system entries.
For card transactions, you will be responsible for processing payments accurately and completing associated back-office tasks. This may include reconciling card slips, verifying totals, and ensuring that electronic records are complete and correct.
The role also involves daily banking duties, including the preparation and banking of all cash and cheques. Accuracy and honesty are critical, as discrepancies can have financial and operational implications for the business.
In addition to transactional duties, you may assist with basic administrative tasks linked to retail operations. This supports the broader team and contributes to a well-organised and efficient store environment.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification
- Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications
- Previous experience in a similar cashier or retail role will be a strong recommendation, although not strictly required
