Ellahi Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and reputable automotive dealership based in Somerset West, Western Cape, for the position of General Sales / Selling Sales Manager. This role is suited to an experienced automotive sales professional with strong leadership ability, solid dealership management experience, and a proven record of driving vehicle sales performance.

This is a senior, hands-on sales management role that requires both strategic oversight and active involvement in vehicle sales. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full sales department while also actively selling vehicles and building long-term customer relationships.


Position Overview

The General Sales / Selling Sales Manager will take overall responsibility for the dealership’s sales division. This includes managing sales staff, setting and achieving sales targets, developing marketing and growth strategies, ensuring compliance with dealership policies, and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

The role requires a balance between leadership and direct selling, making it ideal for a manager who leads from the front and remains actively involved in the sales process.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in Marketing or Sales (advantageous but not essential)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in vehicle sales within a motor dealership environment
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Vehicle Sales Management role
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a sales team
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and self-driven abilities
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
  • Solid knowledge of dealership policies and procedures
  • Understanding of business operations, marketing strategies, and customer relationship management
  • Strong computer literacy and dealership system experience
  • Good financial acumen, including sales analysis and profitability management
  • Excellent customer handling and negotiation skills

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the dealership’s sales department, including but not limited to the following:

Sales Department Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the sales department to ensure smooth and efficient functioning
  • Manage sales staff performance, productivity, and compliance with dealership standards
  • Set clear sales targets and performance objectives for the sales team
  • Monitor results and implement corrective actions where required

Sales Performance and Profitability

  • Drive vehicle sales volumes to achieve and exceed dealership targets
  • Maximise gross profit per unit while maintaining competitive pricing
  • Analyse sales performance reports and financial data to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure alignment between sales activities and overall dealership profitability goals

Marketing and Business Development

  • Create, implement, and monitor effective sales and marketing strategies
  • Identify and pursue new sales opportunities and market segments
  • Work closely with marketing teams or external partners to promote vehicle stock
  • Stay informed about automotive market trends, competitor activity, and customer preferences

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers
  • Ensure consistently high levels of customer service and satisfaction
  • Conduct regular visits and follow-ups with key customers and corporate clients
  • Handle escalated customer queries or complaints in a professional manner

Selling and Mobility Solutions

  • Actively participate in the sales process by selling vehicles where required
  • Present tailored mobility solutions that meet individual customer needs
  • Ensure sales staff are fully trained on product offerings and value propositions

Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure adherence to dealership policies, procedures, and manufacturer standards
  • Maintain accurate sales records, reports, and documentation
  • Promote ethical sales practices and transparent customer dealings
