The VKB Group is currently recruiting for a Floor Assistant at its VKB Retail branch in Reitz, Free State. This is a permanent, entry-level position within the VKB Commercial Services division, specifically in the Retail business unit. Position Overview
The Floor Assistant position at VKB Retail Reitz focuses on the effective movement, handling, and display of merchandise. The successful candidate will be responsible for drawing stock from the stockroom, marking merchandise, and packing it neatly onto shelves to ensure optimal product presentation and availability.
In addition to merchandising duties, the role involves elements of loading, unloading, and goods handling, requiring a strong understanding of safety procedures, weight distribution, and basic logistics principles. The position supports daily retail operations and contributes to a safe, efficient, and customer-friendly shopping environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Floor Assistant, your responsibilities will cover a wide range of operational tasks that are critical to store performance and customer satisfaction. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
You will draw merchandise from the stockroom as requested and ensure that stock is moved efficiently to the retail floor. This includes marking items correctly and packing them onto shelves in line with company standards and merchandising guidelines.
You will plan, direct, and assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring that all cargo is handled safely and efficiently. Proper load planning and weight distribution are essential to prevent damage, reduce risk, and comply with safety regulations.
Inspecting cargo and accompanying documentation before dispatch or storage is an important part of the role. You will ensure that quantities, product types, and documentation are accurate and report any discrepancies immediately.
The position requires close coordination with drivers, dispatchers, warehouse staff, and retail colleagues to ensure smooth stock movement and availability. Clear communication and teamwork are essential to avoid delays and errors.
You will keep accurate records of stock movements, loads, and reconciliations. This supports inventory accuracy and helps management track stock levels and identify potential issues early.
Monitoring and reporting any deviations, damages, or incidents during loading, unloading, or shelf packing is a critical responsibility. You are expected to act proactively to minimise losses and uphold VKB’s operational standards.
Maintaining a safe working environment is a core expectation. You will follow company safety policies, comply with weight and handling regulations, and uphold VKB Group values at all times.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification
- Experience in agricultural retail will serve as a strong recommendation
- At least 1 to 3 years’ experience in transport, warehousing, or logistics operations
- Willingness and availability to work weekends and public holidays as per the roster
- Knowledge of load planning, weight distribution, and safety regulations
- Physically fit and capable of handling heavy-duty tasks
- Clear criminal record
