About the Internship Programme

The 12-month Junior Merchandiser Internship Programme is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment. The programme focuses on developing both technical merchandising skills and essential workplace competencies such as communication, time management, attention to detail, and professional conduct.

Interns will rotate through daily merchandising activities and learn how retail stock is managed, displayed, and promoted to drive sales and brand visibility. This practical exposure significantly improves employability and prepares candidates for future roles within merchandising, sales, or retail operations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Junior Merchandiser Intern, your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

Stock Management and Merchandising

  • Determine which stock items are required to be merchandised at assigned outlets.
  • Draw and communicate accurate stock requirements according to store needs and merchandising plans.
  • Ensure that correct stock levels are maintained on shelves at all times.

Product Quality and Shelf Standards

  • Check product quality, including vintage where applicable, to ensure compliance with brand and quality standards.
  • Monitor shelf stock rotation to ensure older stock is sold first and prevent expired or damaged products.
  • Verify that price tags are correct, visible, and aligned with store pricing policies.

Merchandising Execution

  • Execute merchandising activities according to the prescribed cycle brief.
  • Ensure products are displayed according to brand guidelines and planograms.
  • Maintain neat, organised, and visually appealing shelves to maximise product visibility and sales.

Customer and Store Feedback

  • Provide feedback on customer complaints, queries, and product-related requests.
  • Communicate store-level feedback to supervisors or relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with store staff and customers.

Product Knowledge and Promotions

  • Build and maintain knowledge of products, promotions, and campaigns.
  • Communicate promotional information accurately within the store environment.
  • Support promotional activities as required during merchandising cycles.

Reporting and Administration

  • Accurately record all merchandising activities completed during each call.
  • Ensure reports are completed timeously and submitted according to company procedures.
  • Execute store visits and calls in line with the assigned call cycle and route plan.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following minimum requirements in order to be considered:

  • Aged between 18 and 28 years.
  • Must hold a Diploma qualification.
  • Must be unemployed and looking to complete a workplace experience internship.
  • No previous work experience required, as training will be provided.
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and work within a structured, professional environment.
