Bidvest Facilities Management is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Artisan – Standby Power to join its Telecommunications division in Sandton, Gauteng. This permanent opportunity is suited to a skilled electrical artisan with strong technical expertise in standby power systems, preventative maintenance, and emergency fault response within a facilities management or telecommunications environment.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to perform timely and high-quality planned, preventative, and emergency maintenance on specified equipment in line with the business maintenance strategy and client service standards. The successful candidate will ensure operational reliability of standby plants and related electrical infrastructure, while maintaining strict compliance with legislation, service level agreements (SLAs), and internal procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Technical Execution

  • Report for on-site maintenance work and obtain off-site check-out on job cards in accordance with client and company requirements.
  • Deliver planned and reactive maintenance services across the hard facilities management spectrum, including standby plants, electrical installations, and minor building works.
  • Conduct maintenance of electrical equipment in line with approved maintenance schedules.
  • Perform preventative and emergency fault rectification in compliance with relevant legislation, SLAs, and job plans.
  • Identify potential technical issues or hazards on client equipment for investigation and resolution.
  • Ensure quality workmanship and timeous completion of all field service requests.

Standby Power and Control Systems

  • Maintain and troubleshoot standby power systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Work on air circuit breakers and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Perform maintenance and diagnostics on EPS Controllers, including but not limited to Deep Sea, Gencon, Lovato, Mitsubishi, Siemens, and related systems.

Client Liaison and Communication

  • Liaise with the client control centre regarding maintenance activities and alarm conditions that must be activated during maintenance work.
  • Clear and test alarms for functionality following maintenance interventions.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the Supervisor and Client regarding restoration of operations and any identified risks.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure all work complies with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and other relevant regulations.
  • Adhere to company safety procedures and industry standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • N3 – N6 in Electrical Engineering with a completed Trade Test.
  • Matric (Senior Certificate).
  • Valid South African Driver’s License.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in the electrical engineering (maintenance) field.
  • Practical experience working with air circuit breakers and PLCs.
  • Practical knowledge of EPS Controllers (Deep Sea, Gencon, Lovato, Mitsubishi, Siemens, etc.).
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
  • SAP knowledge is advantageous.
  • Sound understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
