About the Position
Brights Hardware is seeking an experienced and motivated Yard Supervisor for the Drive Thru Yard Department at its Stonewood branch in the Western Cape.
This position is suited to a strong leader with experience in hardware retail, stock management, merchandising, and staff supervision. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring smooth daily operations, excellent customer service, proper housekeeping standards, and effective team management within the department.

Main Purpose of the Role
The Yard Supervisor will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the smooth running of the department
- Supervising staff and daily operations
- Supporting sales growth and profitability
- Maintaining housekeeping and merchandising standards
- Ensuring excellent customer service and customer satisfaction
- Monitoring productivity and operational efficiency
- Supporting sustainable business growth
The successful candidate will work closely with the Department Manager and assist with reporting, staff management, stock processes, and operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
The Yard Supervisor will:
- Ensure smooth daily operation of the department
- Ensure standard operating procedures are followed
- Allocate staff to designated areas and duties
- Monitor staff uniforms and presentation
- Facilitate departmental sales meetings
- Conduct regular departmental inspections
Housekeeping and Merchandising
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring housekeeping standards
- Ensuring aisles and displays are neat and organised
- Maintaining merchandising standards
- Ensuring pricing updates are completed on time
- Monitoring damaged or faulty stock returns
Stock and Returns Management
The successful candidate will:
- Monitor breakages and damaged stock
- Keep the CFC book updated
- Follow up on repairs and quotations
- Participate in perpetual stock takes
- Ensure returned stock is processed correctly
- Allocate designated areas for:
- Incoming stock
- Transfers
- Returns
- Checking areas
Staff Supervision and Leadership
Duties include:
- Planning work schedules and attendance
- Managing overtime and leave queries
- Conducting staff performance reviews
- Training new and existing staff
- Delegating tasks and monitoring performance
- Motivating employees to meet weekly targets
- Enforcing company disciplinary procedures
- Applying discipline when necessary
Reporting and Administration
The Yard Supervisor will also:
- Submit weekly and monthly reports
- Monitor departmental productivity
- Maintain operational records
- Ensure company policies are followed
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Higher Certificate or Diploma (advantageous)
- Brights Leadership Training completed
- Brights Induction (Service Excellence)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar supervisory role
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hardware environment
- Previous departmental experience
