Role Purpose
The Occupational Health Nursing Practitioner will play a vital role in safeguarding employee health and wellbeing within a food production environment. The position focuses on delivering clinical services, preventing workplace injuries and illnesses, and ensuring strict compliance with occupational health standards.
This role reports directly to the General Manager and forms part of the Health & Safety department, contributing to a safe, compliant, and health-focused workplace.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Services & Employee Care
- Provide on-site medical care and administer treatments to employees
- Dispense medication in line with regulatory requirements
- Conduct health assessments and maintain detailed medical histories
- Develop or support treatment plans for workplace-related injuries or illnesses
- Offer family planning services, including guidance and contraceptive administration
Occupational Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure adherence to occupational health standards and company policies
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee medical records
- Monitor workplace health risks and support preventive strategies
- Ensure first aid boxes meet compliance standards and are fully stocked
- Participate in workplace safety initiatives and audits
Incident Management & Injury Treatment
- Assess and treat all work-related incidents promptly
- Provide immediate care or refer cases to the company doctor or external practitioners
- Maintain detailed records of all workplace injuries and incidents
- Support return-to-work processes and rehabilitation where required
Preventative Health Programmes
- Coordinate audiometry testing with accredited service providers
- Promote employee health awareness and preventative care practices
- Support wellness initiatives within the organisation
Administration & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate medical and occupational health documentation
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with health data regulations
- Prepare reports and updates for management as required
Minimum Requirements
- Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
- Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health Nursing
- Valid dispensing licence
- Active SANC membership
- Valid First Aid certification
