Role Overview
This is a site-based supervisory role within the civil construction division of Power Construction (Pty) Ltd, focusing on asphalt paving operations, crew supervision, and daily production control.
The role is hands-on and requires strong leadership on-site to ensure paving work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to engineering and quality standards.
Core Purpose
To supervise and coordinate paving crews and equipment to ensure that asphalt paving activities meet production targets, safety requirements, and technical quality specifications on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Paving Operations Supervision
- Supervise asphalt paving crews and site teams
- Coordinate operation of pavers, rollers, and supporting plant
- Ensure correct placement, levels, thickness, and compaction of asphalt layers
- Monitor paving quality during execution
2. Daily Site Execution
- Interpret and implement daily work plans
- Assign tasks and give clear instructions to teams
- Ensure all materials, tools, and equipment are ready before work starts
- Maintain smooth workflow throughout the shift
3. Production Monitoring
- Track daily output against targets
- Identify delays, risks, or bottlenecks
- Report progress and issues to the Foreman
- Maintain basic production and labour records
4. Quality Control
- Ensure asphalt is laid according to required standards and tolerances
- Monitor asphalt temperature during delivery and compaction
- Identify defects, non-conformances, and rework requirements
- Ensure compliance with project specifications
5. Resource Coordination
- Manage allocation of labour, plant, and materials
- Monitor usage of materials and report wastage or shortages
- Ensure efficient use and care of tools and equipment
- Minimise downtime on site
6. Safety & Site Compliance
- Ensure all work is carried out according to safety procedures
- Enforce safe working practices on site
- Ensure work areas are properly prepared before operations begin
- Support compliance with construction site safety standards
7. Communication & Reporting
- Provide daily feedback to the Foreman or Site Agent
- Report site progress, risks, and operational issues
- Maintain basic documentation of site activities
- Support coordination between teams and supervisors
Minimum Requirements
Education
- ABET Level 4 / Grade 9 or equivalent
- Supervisory training (NQF Level 3 or 4) advantageous
Experience
- 2–4 years’ experience in a construction or roadworks supervisory role
- Experience supervising teams on active construction sites
- Practical knowledge of asphalt paving operations
