Role Overview
A leading mining technology company, Booyco Electronics, is seeking a skilled and hands-on Maintenance Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic systems used in mining environments.
This role is field-based and requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to work independently in demanding underground and surface mining conditions.
Core Purpose
To ensure the reliable installation, maintenance, and optimisation of electronic safety and communication systems at mine sites, while delivering high-quality technical service and ensuring full compliance with safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation & System Setup
- Install electronic systems according to technical specifications and safety standards
- Conduct site surveys and pre-installation assessments
- Commission and test systems after installation
- Train and guide clients on proper system usage
2. Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance on electronic equipment and systems
- Diagnose and repair faults in mining electronic systems
- Ensure all systems remain fully operational and compliant with standards
- Respond to breakdowns and perform emergency repairs when required
3. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide on-site technical support to mining operations
- Diagnose system failures and implement effective solutions
- Assist with both field and laboratory testing of systems
- Work closely with engineering teams to resolve technical issues
4. System Optimisation & Improvement
- Monitor system performance and identify improvement opportunities
- Recommend upgrades and enhancements to improve efficiency and safety
- Collaborate with engineering teams on product improvements
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Complete detailed service reports and technical documentation
- Maintain accurate records including COCs, audit reports, and timesheets
- Record all client interactions and maintenance activities
- Ensure proper documentation for compliance and auditing purposes
6. Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere strictly to mine safety regulations and protocols
- Ensure compliance with electrical and mechanical mining standards
- Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Artisan (Red Seal) Electrician or Automotive Electrician
- 3–5 years’ experience in electronic installations
- Valid driver’s license and own transport
- Willingness to travel and work overtime
- Medically fit for underground and surface mine environments
- Ability to pass Dover testing as part of selection process
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of electronic systems installation and repair
- Fault finding and troubleshooting expertise
- Knowledge of mining electrical and mechanical standards
