Role Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is seeking a qualified and registered Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join their Scottburgh Mall pharmacy team.

Core Purpose
To support pharmaceutical care delivery by assisting with medicine dispensing, stock control, patient interaction, and administrative pharmacy duties, ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met accurately and safely under supervision of a pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pharmaceutical Support Services
- Assist with dispensing Schedule 1–6 medicines under supervision
- Support preparation, compounding, and repackaging of medicines
- Ensure correct labelling and safe supply of medication
- Assist in interpretation and processing of prescriptions
2. Patient Care & Interaction
- Provide accurate instructions on medicine usage to patients
- Assist patients with self-medication and front-shop queries
- Promote health awareness and provide patient information
- Explain medical aid costs and assist with claims queries
3. Prescription & System Management
- Capture and verify prescription and patient data accurately
- Maintain and update patient profiles on pharmacy systems
- Follow up on script tracking and patient appointments
- Ensure compliance with SAPC regulations and pharmacy standards
4. Stock Control & Pharmacy Operations
- Assist with receiving and managing pharmacy stock
- Ensure proper storage according to FEFO principles
- Report stock shortages, errors, and discrepancies
- Assist with bi-annual stock takes and inventory control
5. Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all prescriptions are checked and signed by a pharmacist
- Adhere to SAPC regulations and Dis-Chem SOPs
- Maintain accuracy in dispensing and documentation
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and pharmacy standards
6. Administrative Duties
- Process medical aid claims accurately
- Correct rejected prescription errors
- Maintain proper documentation and pharmacy records
- Support operational reporting and compliance requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Willingness to work retail pharmacy hours
- Valid driver’s licence (advantageous)
- Clear criminal and credit record
Advantageous Experience
- Retail or FMCG pharmacy environment experience
- Knowledge of systems such as Unisolv, SAP, and e-scripting
- Experience in oncology, chronic, HIV/AIDS, or family planning medication
- Additional language proficiency
