Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is currently recruiting a Casual Frontshop Assistant for its Northlands store. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain or grow experience in the retail sector while working in a fast-paced and customer-focused environment.
The position focuses on maintaining high merchandising standards, assisting customers at the point of sale, and ensuring smooth day-to-day store operations.
Purpose of the Role
- Maintain store merchandising standards
- Support customer service at the point of sale
- Ensure shelves are stocked, organised, and presentable
- Assist in driving sales through product availability and service excellence
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 (Matric or Senior Certificate)
- 0 – 6 months retail experience
Advantageous:
- 1 year retail experience
- Certification in Retail Business Management
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising & Stock Control
- Ensure shelves are fully stocked and products are neatly displayed
- Monitor expiry dates and remove expired products
- Restock merchandise to maximise sales
- Ensure correct pricing, labelling, and display standards
- Maintain a clean, organised storeroom
- Follow FIFO stock rotation principles
- Assist with stocktaking and reporting stock issues
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, professional, and helpful assistance to customers
- Handle customer queries and follow up on out-of-stock items
- Build positive relationships with customers
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management
Point of Sale (POS) Duties
- Process transactions accurately (cash, card, vouchers, etc.)
- Handle returns and exchanges when authorised
- Process loyalty cards and rewards programmes
- Ensure accurate cash handling and secure storage of money
- Follow all procedures for line voids and price changes
Store Operations & Housekeeping
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock
- Ensure all unpacked boxes are disposed of correctly
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the store
- Follow all Dis-Chem policies, SOPs, and health & safety regulations
- Wear correct uniform and maintain a professional appearance
Team Support
- Assist with training of new team members
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and management
- Report suspicious or unsafe behaviour
Key Competencies
Essential Skills:
- Basic understanding of retail operations
- Strong numerical skills (basic arithmetic)
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Problem-solving ability
- Ability to follow procedures and work independently
- Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
Advantageous Skills:
- Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Knowledge of SAP systems
Special Conditions of Employment
- Willing and able to work retail hours (including weekends and holidays)
- South African citizen
- Clear criminal and credit record
- Reliable transport and/or valid driver’s license
