Role Overview
A senior IT governance position within the financial services sector, responsible for providing structured oversight of IT operations, vendor performance, compliance, and strategic alignment across a complex, multi-service environment.
The role ensures that all IT services—internal and outsourced—operate within defined governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.
Core Purpose
To lead IT governance and service oversight by enforcing compliance, managing risk, ensuring financial control, and aligning IT delivery with organisational strategy in a regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. IT Governance Framework Management
- Maintain and enforce IT governance policies and frameworks
- Ensure alignment with internal standards and regulatory obligations
- Drive continuous improvement of governance processes
2. Executive & Committee Leadership
- Chair the IT Steering Committee
- Present IT performance, risk, and cost reports to Exco
- Support strategic decision-making on IT investments and priorities
3. Risk, Audit & Compliance
- Ensure continuous audit readiness
- Manage risk tracking and remediation activities
- Ensure compliance with financial services regulations and IT standards
- Oversee security, patching, and vulnerability compliance reporting
4. Service Delivery & SLA Governance
- Enforce SLAs with outsourced providers
- Conduct structured service reviews and performance tracking
- Manage escalations with vendors and service partners
- Oversee BAU service catalogue governance
5. Vendor & Contract Management
- Act as designated controller for outsourced IT services
- Manage vendor performance, deliverables, and contractual obligations
- Ensure accountability across all service providers
6. IT Operations & Change Control
- Approve project scopes, upgrades, and non-BAU work
- Oversee change management governance processes
- Ensure controlled execution of operational transitions
7. Financial Control & Budget Ownership
- Own the IT budget and expenditure tracking
- Monitor spend against approved financial plans
- Prevent unauthorised or uncontrolled costs
- Ensure financial discipline across IT operations
8. Strategic IT Alignment
- Translate business needs into IT initiatives
- Maintain and govern the IT delivery roadmap
- Support digital transformation and operational optimisation
9. Stakeholder Management
- Act as primary liaison between business, IT, and vendors
- Communicate governance outcomes, risks, and issues
- Enable cross-functional collaboration and alignment
10. Service Lifecycle Management
- Oversee service transitions and exit processes
- Ensure documentation completeness and governance continuity
- Manage operational handovers across environments
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Governance, or related field
- 8–10 years’ experience in IT Governance or Vendor Management
- Experience in financial services environment (preferred)
