Job Overview
Lesedi is seeking a Mechanical Quality Control (QC) Inspector to join their Nuclear Division. The role is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical works, materials, and construction processes meet required codes, standards, specifications, and client expectations.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining quality assurance, reducing defects, ensuring compliance, and supporting continuous improvement across project execution—particularly within high-standard industrial environments.
Key Purpose of the Role
To ensure full compliance of mechanical installations and fabrication works through inspections, audits, documentation control, and subcontractor quality monitoring in line with ISO standards and project specifications.
Key Performance Areas
Quality Control & Inspection Management
- Conduct inspections on mechanical works including welding, piping, and fabrication
- Verify compliance with Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Plans (QCPs)
- Monitor hold points and witness points during fabrication and installation activities
- Record inspection results and maintain accurate quality documentation
- Identify, report, and track non-conformances and corrective actions
Subcontractor Quality Oversight
- Review subcontractor quality documentation for compliance with project requirements
- Monitor subcontractor welding, NDT, and material handling activities
- Maintain and review repair registers and quality records
- Conduct site audits on subcontractor performance
- Escalate and address non-compliance where necessary
Documentation & Compliance Control
- Review and approve quality documentation including QCPs, QA plans, and procedures
- Ensure alignment with client, regulatory, and project standards
- Verify inspection hold points and witness points in documentation
- Maintain accurate records of audits, inspections, and compliance reports
- Ensure materials meet required specifications upon receipt
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions for effectiveness
- Identify quality risks and recommend improvements
- Conduct internal audits aligned with ISO 9001 standards
- Support implementation of quality management systems
- Promote continuous improvement culture across site operations
Technical Support & Development
- Provide technical guidance on welding procedures and inspection methods
- Support training and mentoring of junior inspectors and site staff
- Liaise with third-party inspectors for NDT and certification processes
- Assist in welder qualification processes and WPQR documentation
- Communicate quality status and requirements to stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (minimum requirement)
- N5 qualification (advantageous)
- SAIW Level 2 Welding Inspector Certification
- ISO 9001 Internal or Lead Auditor Certification (preferred)
- NDT Level 1 or Level 2 certification (advantageous)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in QA/QC within mechanical or welding environments
- Experience in industrial or power plant projects (advantageous)
- Experience with subcontractor quality control systems
- Knowledge of welding procedures, WPQRs, and NDT processes
Technical Skills
- Ability to interpret isometric and P&ID drawings
- Strong knowledge of welding codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.)
- Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards
- Strong inspection, auditing, and reporting capabilities
- Competent in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
