Job Overview
RPO Recruitment is seeking a highly experienced Site Construction Manager for a large-scale Solar PV project in the Vaal Triangle. This is a fixed-term contract role suited to a senior construction professional with strong leadership experience in infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in line with quality and contractual requirements.
Project Context
This position forms part of a utility-scale renewable energy development, requiring strong expertise in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project environments. The role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and project timelines within a fast-paced construction setting.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Management
- Lead all construction activities on-site from mobilisation to completion
- Manage contractors, subcontractors, and site personnel
- Ensure effective coordination between engineering, procurement, and construction teams
Programme & Delivery Management
- Oversee project schedules and ensure milestones are achieved
- Monitor progress against programme timelines and adjust plans where required
- Ensure efficient resource allocation and productivity on site
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce strict health and safety standards across all site activities
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and company HSE requirements
- Promote a strong safety culture among all workers and contractors
Quality Assurance
- Oversee quality control processes and ensure work meets project specifications
- Identify and resolve construction issues proactively
- Ensure all installations and works comply with engineering standards
Contract & Stakeholder Management
- Manage construction contracts and ensure compliance with contract terms
- Apply knowledge of contract frameworks such as NEC and FIDIC
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Built Environment (minimum)
- Trade background (artisan, foreman, or managerial progression) will be considered
- Formal training in NEC or FIDIC construction contracts (strongly preferred)
- 10–12+ years’ experience in large infrastructure construction projects
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior site leadership role
- Experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects (50MW+) or similar EPC projects
- Proven ability to manage contractors, project programmes, HSE, and quality
- Valid driver’s license
