Job Overview
RPO Recruitment is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support a Solar PV project based in the Vaal Triangle. This fixed-term opportunity is ideal for a technically strong professional with proven experience in power or energy project commissioning, particularly within EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environments.
The role focuses on overseeing commissioning activities, ensuring system readiness, and supporting successful project handover through compliance, testing, and performance validation.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Planning & Execution
- Participate in commissioning planning and execution for solar PV and energy projects
- Review EPC commissioning strategies, procedures, and turnover philosophies
- Oversee site acceptance tests (SATs) and performance testing activities
- Ensure proper coordination of commissioning phases, including energisation
Technical Oversight
- Monitor grid connection processes, including protection systems and testing
- Ensure all systems meet operational and safety standards before energisation
- Validate technical compliance with project specifications and industry standards
Documentation & Compliance
- Review commissioning documentation, including test packs and procedures
- Verify completeness of commissioning dossiers and reports
- Ensure all punch-list items are resolved before handover
- Confirm that as-built documentation and O&M manuals are accurate and complete
Project Close-Out & Handover
- Ensure readiness for final acceptance certification
- Validate commissioning completion and system performance
- Support the final handover process to operations teams
Minimum Requirements
- BEng or BSc (Engineering) in Electrical Engineering (preferred)
- ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Candidate Engineer
- 5–8+ years’ experience in commissioning energy or power projects
- Strong experience with grid connections, protection systems, and energisation
- Proven involvement in commissioning planning, SATs, and testing processes
- Valid driver’s license
